By all accounts, Lucas et al. succeeded in doing what they were trying to do. If the Star Wars Squadgoals shirt, hoodie, sweater and v-neck t-shirt, then great. Surely it has at some point. It has become so big that people of all ages seem to enjoy it. But nobody walks into the theater expecting Oscar-worthy acting and a nuanced screenplay. They want to see a moral struggle, characters they can identify with, cool space battles, and they want it all to take place in a developed, imaginative world they don't get to see anywhere else. Star Wars delivers that as well as or better than basically anything else out there.
