No one ever spelled or pronounced my Official Baseballism Hercules shirt right and I thought that would all go away when I got married, but no one spells or pronounces my married name right either. My mother’s name was changed by one of her teachers because it was too foreign and she lived with that assumed name the rest of her life. My paternal grandparents had their name changed for them by authorities on Ellis Island! I have the English version of my grandmothers name but would have loved the original Polish version. I wonder how the man would feel if the wife didn’t want to take his last name because it was foreign sounding and too hard to pronounce and what Dear Abby’s answer would be to that.
